As a teen-ager, I am very concerned about the well-being of our nation after the horrendous events of Sept. 11. Who on earth could be so heartless to commit such an awful crime? Why would they want to kill so many people? The people that died were mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents and famous executives.

From the minute one of the school's vice principals walked into my classroom and told my teacher to turn on the television, to the time I am writing this letter, this tragedy has been the only thing on my mind.

I believe that the nation will be changed forever. How did security get breached so much, and how did the people who committed these awful crimes get away with carrying weapons onto airplanes?

I have flown with my family numerous times, and I could not believe how easily we made it through airport security. I believe that Congress must now make an effort to beef up airport security at all airports, regardless of size, in our country.

Our Central Intelligence Agency was caught off guard. We need to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again.

Our nation is fortunate that we have so many heroic people who risked their lives to help victims. The outpouring of donations has been absolutely amazing. I think that George W. Bush, in his first real test has president, has done a satisfactory job. When I was scared Tuesday night, it calmed me a little to see the president of the United States.

I am not a Bush fan, but I am proud that our country is getting support from many other world leaders, and I think the Bush Administration is doing a good job, trying to take the panic out of our citizens. I previously opposed things like missile defense and more money for the military, but now I truly understand why we need things like this in our country.

though the people that made this attack should be punished to the fullest extent of laws worldwide, I hope we do not start a war with them. I believe that our country will stick together, and stand united. I hope that the peacefulness of living in the United States remains intact after all the pieces are picked up from this horrible tragedy. I will never forget exactly where I was, exactly the words of the vice principal, and watching the horror of the day unfold.
