I am 13 years old and I am tired of people, ranging
from famous celebrities to ordinary citizens complaining about the war on
terrorism taking place. I have been a patriotic citizen all of my life partly
because of family members’ involvement in the military and my understanding of
sacrifices by Americans and my ancestors to give my family a better life here
in America.
Even though I am Catholic, and even though I oppose
of innocent civilians dying when they don’t have to, something must be done in
this case. On September 11, 2001, I watched the terrorist attacks unfold in
horror with classmates and teachers. In my opinion, people that are against the
war on terrorism are sending a message to the terrorists that it’s OK to
terrorize our nation. The World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks on September
11 were the worst in our nation’s history. Over 5,000 people died. We must
retaliate against that type of attack.
Anti-war protesters should consider the facts before
making their opinions. Very few of our brave soldiers have lost their lives in
this war. The Taliban government, which has been harboring terrorists, and the
al-Qaida terrorist network are our targets in this war. Although some innocent
civilians have been killed in this war, the civilian casualties are nowhere
near the amount in other wars. Our retaliation is not towards the innocent
people of Afghanistan, who have been forced to do many things because of the
Taliban, but our retaliation is towards the Taliban and al-Qaida.
Finally, how would the anti-war protestors feel if
one of their family members had been killed on the airplanes, in the World
Trade Center, or at the Pentagon? Many families in our area lost family members
on September 11, and no doubt they are upset and angry towards the terrorists.
Our country has gone through a very tough time in recent months, and my life
has been changed forever. I ask the anti-war protesters to stop because of the
state of our nation.
As an American, I don’t always agree with our
government, or our country’s actions, but this time, the government is 100%
right.
