Everybody knows it. Even David Cone himself knows it. This Red Sox organization is the last one to give him a chance. This is his last chance, and if he wants to go out on the right note, he knows that this is his chance. Granted, his two starts so far have been against the patient Yankees, who aren't like today's opponent, the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays are "free-swingers", and that is the type of team Cone needs to face to win. He must get the outside calls, and he must get hitters like those on the Jays to chase bad pitches. The Yankees won last week because they were patient with Cone, and didn't swing at bad pitches.
Cone has said that he really wants to help this team win. If he can't win, he still can be kept because of his leadership role in the clubhouse. He has always been a leader on any team he's been on. That is something the Red Sox are certainly lacking right now. David Cone hopes for success, and today's start against the Jays could be big for him.
