It's time for Izzy Alcantara, there is no doubt about it. The DH/RF type is an excellent hitter, something we need on this team-- for now. Alcantara is hitting .328 with fifteen- yes, fifteen home runs and 36 RBIs. Those fifteen homers would put him 2nd on the Red Sox, only behind Manny Ramirez, of course.
Izzy's lack of hustle got him on Jimy's bad list, and that might cost him a job as long as Jimy manages the Red Sox. Imagine a lineup like this:
Jose Offerman 2B Trot Nixon RF Carl Everett CF Manny Ramirez LF Izzy Alcantara DH Brian Daubach 1B Chris Stynes 3B The platoon of catchers Mike Lansing/Craig "I can't hit the ball" Grebeck SS
There. That's before Nomar comes back next month. Alcantara will be able to back up Manny, and Manny would get less intentional walks becuase of the power threat Alcantara brings. That would benefit both batters. When Nomar comes back, Everett gets moved to Number 2, Garciaparra Number 3, Manny 4th, Alcantra 5th, Daubach 6th. Doesn't that make sense to you? I'm sure it would help with our batting, and you can't get much better than that.
